Second Life Pearl Shieldmaiden

The acronyms IC and OOC - 'In Character' and 'Out of Character' become important in negotiating any Second Life situation. Almost without exception librarians and teachers are always their real world selves, while vampires and furry creatures are clearly in character although it is not uncommon to find all of these individuals present at an in-world party, astronomy lecture or poetry reading.

Add to this complexity the mixing and overlapping of IC and OOC which to the uninitiated results in a confusion of real world explanations and fictional narrative. Exactly what and who these residents are is something that only conversation and familiarity will reveal.

Pearl is a poet and her poem 'Colour Me' is a deep and profound meditation on self and particularly the lives of many in SL, interesting then that she wrote it before arriving.

Colour me Careless....

*
Colour me careless with your artists touch
It doesn't really matter to me all that much
*
Dress me, arrange me, put me on display
It doesn't really matter I was made this way
*
Colour me careless with your artists flair
It doesn't really matter I don't care
*
Paint me, design me, present me on stage
It doesn't really matter, my body's a cage
*
Colour me careless with your artists sight
It doesn't really matter, I won't put up a fight
*
Shape me, mould me, show off my form
It doesn't really matter if I'm cold or warm
*
Colour me careless with your artists design
It doesn't really matter, to it I'll resign
*
Decorate me, adorn me, highlight my shape
It doesn't really matter if I can't escape
